General insulation tips:

  • Before insulating your eco home make sure to fix any leaks as the insulation won’t be as effective when wet.
  • The insulation material should not contain formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a cancer causing chemical that can evaporate slowly into your homes. It is used in conventional fiberglass bats as adhesive.
  • Take time to seal any gaps around pipes and windows to avoid air leaks.
  • Check the R-value which tells you how resistant the material is to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the more effective the level of insulation is.
